By studying the Graduate Certificate in Social Care (International Pathway), you will gain necessary knowledge and skills that can be applied in various social care settings, such as aged care, housing support and disability. Furthermore the course will provide you with a pathway to the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), which is a professionally accredited qualification awarded full accreditation by the Australian Association of Social Workers. You will receive bespoke English language support to assist you in developing your academic and communication skills that supports you to achieve the required IELTS score to be eligible for entry into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying).
The Graduate Certificate is composed of the first semester of the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) enabling advanced standing into the Masters course. You will engage with important issues such as decolonisation, Indigenisation, sustainability, and collaboration. You will also focus on developing direct practice skills in assessment and intervention, ensuring you are well-prepared for diverse roles in evolving workplaces.

Professional Accreditation
The Graduate Certificate in Social Care (International Pathway) is not an externally accredited degree. However, successful completion of this course (including obtainment of a score of 7.0 or higher in IELTS) enables articulation into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), which is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers.
Course structure
The Graduate Certificate in Social Care (International Pathway) requires the completion of 50 credit points of Core units in Semester 1.
Alongside your core units you will have the opportunity to engage with bespoke English language support to assist you in developing your academic and communication skills that supports you to achieve the required IELTS score to be eligible for entry into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying).

Entry requirements
For Domestic students
This course is only available to international students on an approved pathway to the Master of Social Work (Qualifying). Domestic students should apply for direct entry into R7O Master of Social Work (Qualifying).
For International students
Bachelor's degree in a related field:
A bachelor's degree other than in Social Work from the University of Tasmania or approved tertiary institution with:
- a major or equivalent in a related field such as social sciences, behavioural sciences, psychology, nursing or education.
- a minimum of 4 units (50 credit points) or equivalent in studies of society and studies of behavioural or psychological sciences.
These 4 units (50 credit points) must have been completed within 9 years of admission to the Graduate Certificate of Social Care (International Pathway).
Students with a Bachelor's degree in a non-related field:
Students with a Bachelor's degree in a non-related field may:

complete up to 4 units (50 credit points) from the Bachelor of Social Work with Honours, comprising 2 units (25 credit points) of Core units at Introductory (100) level and 2 units (25 credit points) of Core units at Intermediate (200) level.
English Language Requirements
IELTS (Academic) 6.5.
Students who successfully pass all 50 credit points in the Graduate Certificate of Social Care (International Pathway) and obtain a score of 7.0 or higher in IELTS, will have the option to articulate into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying), receiving 50 credit points of advanced standing.
Safety in Practice Compliance
Students who articulate to the Master of Social Work (Qualifying) need to complete a Safety in Practice Agreement to meet pre-practicum requirements. Articulation
Students who successfully pass all 50 credit points of the Graduate Certificate in Social Care (International Pathway) and obtain a score of 7.0 or higher in IELTS, will have the option to articulate into the Master of Social Work (Qualifying).
Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
This is a full-fee course, which means you’ll need to pay the full amount for your studies. Commonwealth Supported Places are not available in this course. However, there are still support options available for eligible students to help you manage the cost of studying this course.
You may be able to fund all or part of your tuition fees by accessing a FEE-HELP loan from the Australian Government. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists domestic full-fee students to pay for University, which is repaid through the Australian Tax System once you earn above a repayment threshold. This means you’ll only have to start repaying the loan once you start earning above a specific amount

International students
2024 Total Course Fee (international students): $17,475 AUD*.
Course cost based on a rate of $34,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).
* Please note that this is an indicative fee only.
International students
International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
