This course is offered for professionals working as middle and senior managers in the health care sector who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in the management of patient safety and service quality in health care organsiations. It is appropriate for hospital administrators, risk and quality assurance managers, and senior medical, nursing and allied health administrators.

The School of Health Sciences aims to create an educational environment which values critical, reflective thinking, life-long learning, acquisition of generic attributes and professional development.

The course provides students with an opportunity to advance knowledge and skills, to act as leaders in critical analysis, development, implementation and evaluation required for quality service redesign. The Master of Quality Services (Health and Safety) course objectives are to:

  • develop students' advanced body of knowledge in the  development and implementation of quality service management policy;
  • equip students to design, implement and evaluate workplace change leading to a strengthened quality culture;
  • provide an opportunity to gain a theoretical and practical appreciation of various health care systems;
  • facilitate students' understanding of the strategic management of health care organisations;
  • develop students' knowledge of the epidemiological issues of health care organisations;
  • facilitate specialised understanding of existing health service models;
  • apply best practice models for quality service design;
  • extend students' knowledge, to critically review and communicate key information in relation to  theoretical models and frameworks of quality evaluation;
  • interpret workplace culture and its impact on quality service delivery;
  • apply established theories to enhance factors that facilitate quality culture in the workplace;
  • empower students to act to address barriers to the development of a quality culture in the workplace; and
  • apply knowledge of monitoring and measuring performance within a quality framework.

    Tertiary: FOR ELIGIBILITY TO BE ADMITTED TO THE COURSE: · AQF (or equivalent) undergraduate degree qualification and be working in a health care setting.Completed a Graduate Diploma or equivalent in the same specialisation · A statement outlining area of work, and evidence of confirmation of employment. (Payslip or signed and dated statement confirming current employment status). FOR ELIGIBLITY TO RECEIVE A HECS FEE SCHOLARSHIP Registered Nurses who are employed with, or members of, a partner organisation: Registered Nurses who work for one of our partner organisations can be offered H4F - Quality and Safety specialisation, to study the year one units under a HECS fee scholarship.

    Options for this course

    This is a full-fee course, which means you’ll need to pay the entire amount for your studies. Commonwealth supported places are not available in this postgraduate course. However, there are still support options available for eligible students to help you manage the cost of studying this course.

    You may be able to fund all or part of your tuition fees by accessing a FEE-HELP loan from the Australian Government. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists domestic full-fee students to pay for University, which is repaid through the Australian Tax System once you earn above a repayment threshold. This means you’ll only have to start repaying the loan once you start earning above a specific amount.

    An important note on Youth Allowance and Austudy

    The Department of Social Services has approved some accredited and professionally oriented Masters courses for student payments through Youth Allowance or Austudy. This means if you enrol in one of these courses, you may be eligible for student payments. However, please be aware that this is not the case for all Master courses.
