If you want to be in line with the next generation of professionals who are capable of modern engineered solutions that are sustainable, economically feasible, safe, and appropriate to context and purpose, then this course is suited to you. This Certificate provides a pathway into the Master of Professional Engineering with all four units as advanced standing. Students can transition into the Civil and Structural Specialisation only by using advanced standing against core and elective units.

Learning outcomes
LO1 Formulate substantiated conclusions for contemporary structural engineering problems through applying local and advanced engineering knowledge and methods of engineering analysis.
LO2 Design and communicate structural engineering components, systems and/or processes to address an assemblage of technical, ethical, legislative and resourcing considerations.
LO3 Apply the Engineers Australia 'professional and personal attributes' to real-world structural engineering problems.
Career outcomes
Structural Engineers have an important role in designing and building structures, to ensure the end product does not collapse, bend, or vibrate in way that is undesirable for the infrastructure. A Structural Engineer works with professionals such as builders, architects and designers to determine materials, construction methods and standards, along with drafting and interpreting plans and specifications.
Having a career that takes you on site, working with other professions and ensuring the structural stability of the infrastructure around you is suitable and safe, is rewarding and fulfilling. Whether it be in the public sector, private sector that outsource to government, differing fields of construction, or architecture, your options of employment are exciting and in demand nationally. The job growth for this specialisation in engineering is projected to grow by 21.9% over the next five years.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements
A Bachelor degree in a science-based discipline with sufficient numerical skills to undertake the Graduate Certificate Structural Engineering course; or
A Bachelor degree in Engineering (Non-Washington Accord) or
A Bachelor degree in Engineering (Washington Accord) majoring in a different specialisation than Civil Engineering.
Depending on elective choices, students may be required to have completed previous study or experience deemed equivalent to relevant prerequisites.
Students who have completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Similar) from an Institution accredited under the Washington Accord cannot enrol in the Graduate Certificate Structural Engineering.
Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
