You'll learn from our international experts in medication safety and pharmacy practice, benefiting from their experience and innovations during your classroom studies, and while working on your rewarding projects. They draw upon their research in modern, community oriented projects that include reducing sedative use in aged care, and the benefits of integrating pharmacists in emergency departments.

All students will undertake Professional  Experience Placements in both community and hospital settings.

Professional experience placements make you career ready.

We offer a minimum of 400 hours of Professional Experience Placements (PEP) during your studies, as well as significant laboratory and project experiences. This hands-on learning begins right from first year, and culminates in the second trimester of your final year where you will spend time on PEP, learning to lead medication management in multidisciplinary health teams, and undertaking a research project.

Placements can be conducted here in Tasmania, as well as in Australia and even internationally (travel restrictions pending). Previous students have completed their placement in Canada and the United Kingdom.

The Commonwealth Prac Payment offers pharmacy students support while they’re undertaking mandatory placements. From July 2027, eligible students will be able to access $338.60 per week (benchmarked to the single Austudy rate) while they’re undertaking a placement.

In your final year, you will also participate in real-world group-based collaborative research projects in healthcare  settings. As the hub for pharmaceutical teaching and research in Tasmania, our industry, community, and government connections provide you with a range of options for these projects.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours is an externally accredited degree.

This course is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC).

Once you complete our Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours, you'll need to meet the Pharmacy Board of Australia (https://www.pharmacyboard.gov.au/) registration standards to be eligible to apply for pharmacist registration in Australia. These include completing a pre-registration year as an intern pharmacist.

Schools Recommendation Program 
Australian year 12 students can apply for this course via our Schools Recommendation Program. Rather than an ATAR, your application is based on a recommendation by your school teachers. This can factor in your year 11 results, an assessment of your capabilities, and other considerations. 
 
Through the program, you can receive and accept an offer prior to completing year 12. You will still need to finish your year 12 studies – including any exams – to commence your studies. In addition, this course requires you to pass specific pre-requisite subjects, see below for details. 
 
If you don’t receive an early offer for this course through the Schools Recommendation Program, you will be re-assessed for a higher preference offer once your ATAR is released.

Applicants who have recently completed secondary education 

The minimum ATAR for this course is 70.

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2026, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 70.7.  The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your individual subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer:
•    Applicants must have completed at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points) at a Diploma level or higher. 
•    If an applicant has failed any units, the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made.

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Diploma (or equivalent) in any discipline.

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have studies or experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in the following subjects from the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) (or equivalent), or from the University of Tasmania, within the last 10 years: 

• Mathematics Methods (MTM415117) (TCE), or 
• General Mathematics (MTG315123) (TCE), or 
• Mathematics Specialised (MTS415118) (TCE), or 
• Mathematics Methods Foundation (MTM315117) (TCE), or 
• Applied Mathematics Foundation Unit (KMA002) (UTAS), or 
• Introduction to University Mathematics (KMA100) (UTAS)

AND
•    Satisfactory achievement in one of the following subjects from either the Tasmania Certificate of Education (TCE) (or equivalent), or from UTAS: 
o    Chemistry (CHM415115) (TCE), or
o    Introduction to Chemistry (KRA161) (UTAS), or
o    Physical Sciences (PSC315118) (TCE)

Recommended but not required: Biology (BIO315124) (TCE) or Foundations of Biosciences (XAB083) (UTAS)

Safety In Practice Requirements

This course includes compulsory Professional Experience Placements. You must meet the College of Health and Medicine's Safety in Practice Requirements before census date of the first semester of your course. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

English Language Requirements 

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0). 

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided.

Articulation from X1M:
Following successful completion, students from the Diploma of Pharmacy Studies (X1M) are eligible to apply to the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours. Entry is not guaranteed; applicants will be ranked according to study in the X1M. Students who are successfully admitted into the Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours will be awarded 12.5 credit points.
