Additionally, the course is suitable for experienced professionals in specialised areas such as construction, fabrication, cooking and hospitality who are seeking to become teachers and researchers in the VET sector, as well as Service personnel seeking a commission in training specialisations.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning (AQF Level 7) graduates will be able to:
- Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate adult and applied learning programs in different learning and teaching contexts, including face-to-face, blended and fully online;
- Research their own teaching practice using educational theory;
- Apply relevant institutional and national professional standards to reflect on teaching practice for continual improvement and sustainability;
- Communicate professionally in workplace and educational settings using a wide range of traditional and digital media;
- Respond professionally and ethically to a wide range of student and employee educational and developmental needs.
Career outcomes
Graduates of the Bachelor of Adult and Applied Learning will have a range of specialised and transferable skills that are highly valued by a diverse range of organisations and workplaces, including:
- TAFEs
- VET-in-School programs
- Defence, Police & Emergency Service training academies
- Private or Enterprise Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
They also will be well positioned to fulfill roles within Human Resource and Development (HRD) where the professional development of staff is a key function.
Professional Recognition
There is no professional recognition associated with this course, although graduates are able to apply for salary progression under the requirements of the TAFE Teacher award, on their completion of a three year education degree that focusses on adult and vocational education and includes a practicum component.

Eligibility
We encourage you to apply for the courses you most want to study. If you’re not eligible to enter your chosen course right now, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best pathway option.

Domestic applicants who have recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)
This course is only available to students who have completed a Trade Certificate or a higher qualification and have extensive work experience in a field relevant to their intended teaching area. If you have recently completed secondary education, you may consider alternative education courses, including:
- Associate Degree (Learning Support)
- Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
- Bachelor of Education (Primary)
- Bachelor of Education (Health & Physical Education)
- Bachelor of Education (Science and Mathematics)
Domestic applicants with higher education study
To be eligible for an offer, you must:
- have completed a course at Associate Degree level or higher at any Australian higher education provider (or an equivalent overseas qualification) in your intended teaching area; and
- have at least four years of industry experience in your intended teaching area
Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study
To be eligible for an offer, you must:
- have completed a Trade Certificate, AQF Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or an equivalent qualification) in your intended teaching area; and
- have at least four years of industry experience in your intended teaching area
Domestic applicants with work and life experience
This course is not available to students who apply based only on work and life experience. Applicants must have completed a Trade Certificate or higher qualification in a field related to their intended teaching area in order to be considered. You may consider alternative education courses, including:
- Associate Degree (Learning Support)
- Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
- Bachelor of Education (Primary)
- Bachelor of Education (Health & Physical Education)
- Bachelor of Education (Science and Mathematics)
You can enquire online for information on interstate and international equivalents to the Tasmanian senior secondary subjects above. If you have not met any of these prerequisites you will need to complete a UTAS foundation unit before you start your course.

If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.
We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.

International students
2021 Total Course Fee (international students): $96,138 AUD*.
Course cost based on a rate of $30,950 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

International students are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the annual rate. International students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
