Animal Research Ethics

Our Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) operates a state-wide service that reviews research involving animals in Tasmania, including research conducted at interstate University of Tasmania campuses.

The University of Tasmania acknowledges and respects the animals who contribute to science and learning. Animals play a vital role in advancing scientific knowledge, improving human and animal health, and supporting environmental sustainability. The University of Tasmania recognises this contribution with respect and gratitude, and is committed to conducting animal research ethically and responsibly, with a strong focus on animal welfare.

The University of Tasmania does not conduct or permit the use of animals for the testing of finished cosmetic products or cosmetic ingredients.
