The course includes both coursework units and an Honours dissertation. The Honours program is an intensive, one year program that is designed to be challenging and is available to students with a superior performance in their undergraduate program. It will develop your skills further, broaden your knowledge base and enable you to demonstrate your initiative, organisation and motivation to potential employers.
During your undergraduate studies, you have probably discovered that you have an aptitude for some subjects more than others or you may have developed a passion for a particular field in which you want to build your career. Studying Honours allows you to develop these areas further through the dissertation, building on the theories studied in your undergraduate program. The dissertation you prepare will be leading research in your chosen field, ensuring your ideas are at the forefront of current thinking. Such specialist knowledge will enable you to develop your career based on your own particular aptitudes and interests.
Simultaneously you will be demonstrating an ability to undertake advanced units of study. Within the Honours program, you can for example undertake a postgraduate coursework unit of your choice. Other coursework units in the program will build your research skills and understanding of contemporary issues in the maritime and logistics industries. The Honours program is highly regarded as its graduates have specialist knowledge and advanced skills that are sought after by industry.
Course objectives
The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management with Honours provides graduates with high-level expertise and knowledge to understand the maritime business in the global arena, the world-wide spanning logistics services and strategies, as well as the structuring, operation and coordination of supply chains.
While exposing students to key principles in maritime and logistics industries, the additional honours courses provide students with the opportunity to refine their analytical skills and area-specific expertise on a topic of their choosing.
The program aims to produce graduates able to contribute substantially to strategic decision making to maintain, enhance and drive these industries now and into the future.

We maintain close links with prospective employers and industry associations to ensure you can access opportunities that support your career development. We will connect you with professionals from the maritime and logistics industries through various events such as guest speakers and industry forum. The Maritime and Logistics Management Industry Forum has provided a medium for students to speak with senior managers from Tasmanian and interstate companies such as TasPorts, Agility Logistics, Toll Group, Australian National Lines (ANL), Oldendorff Carriers and Patrick Stevedore. In addition to networking with industry professionals, attending events will also enable you to learn about the scope of employment prospects available to those who graduate with AMC’s Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management.

The maritime and logistics industries underpin international business and world trade. They are a key element in sustainable development, and are tightly interconnected with human society: physically, socially and economically.
As such, it is critical that they are managed by highly trained individuals and teams who can lead the development, implementation and control of sound contemporary management practices.
The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management with Honours prepares students for management and senior administrative careers in private enterprises, industry organisations and governments. As a graduate of this degree program, you can be confident that the skills, knowledge and networks you’ve acquired through study will allow you to succeed in a diverse range of areas: commercial shipping, ports and terminals, transport, transport policy and administration, freight forwarding, exporting and importing, logistics and supply chains, and other elements of international business.
Our Honours graduates are well regarded by employers because of their high level of academic achievement, well-developed research skills, and proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
Employment outlook for maritime professionals is growing, with skilled graduates in global demand.

Each AMC course is informed by an Industry Advisory Committee. Membership of the advisory committee includes industry leaders, associations and past graduates.
Graduates of the course are eligible for credit exemption when pursuing the professional qualification from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS).
Graduates may be eligible to receive a professional certification awarded by the International Association of Maritime and Port Executives (IAMPE) USA.

Course structure
The Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management with Honours requires the completion of 100 credit points comprising:
- 87.5 credit points of Core units
- 12.5 credit points of Elective units
In each semester you will complete research and coursework units, as per the schedule for your area of study below.
Your core units include 4 units dedicated to your Dissertation, JNB608 Research Methods and JNB425 Special Topics in Logistics and Maritime Management. In your Elective component, you can choose an advanced level elective to support your area of specialisation.

Entry requirements
For Domestic students
- Must either have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Global Logistics and Maritime Management in this University or have qualified in another university or tertiary institution for a degree deemed to be equivalent to that degree.
- Normally, must have obtained a minimum average of a credit level in third year units.
For International students
Admission to Honours courses at the University of Tasmania require qualifications equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree. Applicants must achieve the required grade in their qualifying studies, meet any prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer. Admission is conditional on research project and supervisor availability.
English Language Requirements
For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Cost shouldn’t get in the way of you studying.
If you’re a domestic student, you may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place in this course. This means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.
You may also be able to defer payment of the student contribution amount by accessing a HECS-HELP loan from the Government. If eligible, you’ll only have to pay your tuition fees once you start earning above a specific amount.
