General Entry Requirements

Documentation guidelines

As part of your application, you may be asked to provide supporting documentation. This will happen if you’re applying for a postgraduate course, or if you need additional evidence to meet the General Entry Requirements or other individual course requirements.

Some courses, like the Bachelor of Paramedic Practice Conversion Pathway, can have unique requirements. You’ll need to make sure you check the individual course page for these in the Course and Unit Handbook.

When you’re applying through the application portal, you’ll be prompted to submit additional documentation. You can save your application, complete your documentation and then return later.

A Personal Competency Statement is required to be submitted by applicants who have not undertaken any study at a Certificate IV level or higher since their Year 10 year of senior secondary school. A Personal Competency Statement allows applicants without any formal academic qualifications to meet the University's General Entry Requirements by demonstrating that they have, through life experiences, the skills and abilities to be successful in a tertiary course.

When applying for a postgraduate course, you may be required to provide an academic transcript. Academic transcripts are legal documents recording all study you have completed at a university.

A complimentary copy is provided when you graduate but copies can be produced for a fee at any time during or after your study.

Selection

To be considered for admission to a course you must:

The University will assess your qualifications, including your supporting documentation, as part of the standard assessment process. It takes time to process your application after we receive it. The time taken will vary depending on the type of application and how accurate and complete your application is when you apply.

It is important to note that meeting the University’s admission requirements does not guarantee you entry to the course of your choice.

If you have not met the entry requirements or prerequisites for the course you have applied for you may be offered a place in an alternative course.

Some courses are highly competitive, have a limited number of places and are subject to a quota. Applications for these courses are assessed by ranking eligible applicants on the basis of each applicant’s qualifications. The process compares the qualifications of each applicant and determines the relative position of each applicant for entry to the course.

The minimum selection rank required for entry to a particular course in a particular year is not predetermined. Each year, ranks are determined by the number of places available (quota) in a course, the number of applicants who apply for the course, and the standard of those applicants.

The following undergraduate courses are subject to a quota:

The following postgraduate (coursework) courses are subject to a quota:

Some other courses also have minimum qualifying grade requirements. For more information check the entry requirements on your course page.

The University reserves the right to interview or audition any applicant prior to selection or to conduct other special selection processes in some cases.

Applicants for performance-based courses may be required to submit a portfolio or complete an audition as part of the requirements for entry into the course.

You can determine whether the course that you wish to apply to requires that you submit a portfolio, or participate in an interview or audition by checking the Entry Requirements information in the University's Course & Unit Handbook.

If you believe an error has been made in the assessment of your application, you can seek a review of the decision by emailing Admissions@utas.edu.au. The Executive Director of Student Operations (or their delegate) is responsible for reviews.

Before requesting a review please note that meeting the minimum entry requirements for a course do not guarantee an offer a place in that course. Further, where ATAR is used in the assessment process, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer for a course may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive and the number of places available.

In reviewing admissions decisions, the determination of the Executive Director Student Operations (or their delegate) is final. Applicants seeking further review may contact Ombudsman Tasmania. Alternatively, if the applicant is a currently enrolled University of Tasmania student, they may lodge a formal complaint to the University of Tasmania.
