Course structure
Completion of the Diploma of University Studies (pathway) requires 8 x 12.5 credit point units.
Completion of the Diploma of University Studies (Arts) requires the completion of 100 credit points from either the Arts pathway or the Media and Communication pathway.

Applicants for the Nursing Foundation Studies Specialisation
All students entering the Nursing Foundation Studies specialisation must either:
- Declare that English is your primary language (the language primarily used for reading, writing, listening, and speaking and the language known best and most comfortable with); OR
- Provide evidence of achieving an IELTS result of 6.5 in all bands (or equivalent in a recognised English test)
This requirement is in place to ensure you are able to meet the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council English language requirements on entry to the Bachelor of Nursing. If you do not have English as your primary language you must provide evidence of achieving an IELTS result of 7.0 in all bands (or equivalent in a recognised English test) on entry to the Bachelor of Nursing.

Special Consideration
If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability.
We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants.
Passes in units in other incomplete courses in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the Diploma, with a course plan developed to detail the units required to qualify for the Diploma.
Maximum credit for units completed in a course at within UTAS or another approved tertiary institution will not exceed 50 credit points. The maximum of 50 credit points will apply to courses completed at Diploma level (AQF level 5) or higher.
Arts specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Arts) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Media and Communication* with 100 credit points of advanced standing.
Business specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Business) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Business with 100 credit points of advanced standing.
Education specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Education) provides guaranteed entry into a Bachelor of Education (Primary) or Bachelor of Education (Health and Physical Education), with credit for relevant first year units (50 credit points).
Engineering specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Engineering) provides guaranteed entry into a Bachelor of Engineering (Specialisation) with Honours or Bachelor of Maritime Engineering, with credit for four units (50 credit points) of advanced standing.
Health Science specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Health Science) provides a pathway to the Bachelor of Biomedicine with credit for 8 units (100 credit points); and provides a pathway to the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science with credit for 5 units (62.5 credit points) for relevant first year units.
Nursing Foundation Studies specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Nursing Foundation Studies) provides a pathway to the Bachelor of Nursing, with credit for four units i.e., 50 credit points of advanced standing.
Please note that admission to the Bachelor of Nursing is highly competitive and that completion of the Diploma of University Studies (Nursing Foundation Studies) does not guarantee an offer for this course. Applicants are ranked and offers are made based on the number of places available.
Paramedicine Foundation Studies specialisation
Students who complete the Paramedicine Foundation Studies will be eligible to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Paramedicine. Entry is not guaranteed; applicants will be ranked according to study in the DUS and offers made to fill the sub-quota. Students transferring into the Bachelor of Paramedicine will receive 50 credit points of advanced standing.
Psychology specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Psychology) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Psychological Science with 100 credit points of advanced standing.
Science specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Science) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology*, Bachelor of Natural Environments and Conservation*, Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours*, or Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science* with 100 credit points of advanced standing.
Social Work specialisation
The Diploma of University Studies (Social Work) provides guaranteed entry into the Bachelor of Social Work with Honours, with 50 credit points of advanced standing.
*Full credit (100 credit points) is dependent on unit selection.

Fees & scholarships
Domestic students
Commonwealth supported places (CSP) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, this means your fees will be subsidised by the Australian Government. You’ll only need to pay the student contribution amount for each unit you study within the course.

HECS-HELP loans
You may be able to defer payment of the student contribution amount by accessing a HECS-HELP loan from the Government. If eligible, you’ll only have to pay your tuition fees once you start earning above a specific amount.

Domestic scholarships
Each year, the University offers more than 900 awards to students from all walks of life, including: those who have achieved high academic results, those from low socio-economic backgrounds, students with sporting ability, students undertaking overseas study, and students with a disability.
Applications for most awards commencing in Semester 1 open at the beginning of August and close strictly on 31 October in the year prior to study.
